Cookie policy

1. What this page covers
A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser. A website can also keep information on your device in other ways, for example in your browser’s memory (local storage). The law treats both in the same way. This page says what X-MO keeps on your device and why.
2. What X-MO keeps today
X-MO sets no cookies. It keeps up to three items in your browser’s memory (local storage). Each item is stored only after you press a button or choose an option. A fourth, short-lived item is described below the table.
| Name | What it is for | When it is stored | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
xmo-aviso-aceptado |
Remembers that you confirmed you are 18 or older, so the age notice does not appear again. It stores the date and time of your confirmation. | When you press “I’m 18 or older, enter”. | No expiry date. It stays until you delete it in your browser. |
xmo-consent |
Remembers your cookie choice. It stores the version of the choice, whether Statistics is on, and the date. | When you press Save selection, Accept all, Only necessary or Reject all. | No expiry date. It stays until you delete it in your browser. |
xmo-idioma |
Remembers the language you chose, so the website opens in that language next time. It stores a two-letter code, for example nl. |
Only when you choose a language in the language menu. | No expiry date. It stays until you delete it in your browser. |
These three items stay in your browser. They are not sent to our server and no other company can read them.
On days when the small Watch X-MO on your TV button can appear, the open tab also keeps one item in its own memory (session storage), so the button appears at most once per visit. It is deleted when you close the tab.
| Name | What it is for | When it is stored | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
xmo-nudge |
Remembers during this visit the state of the Watch X-MO on your TV button and the distinct main-menu destinations you click, plus the FAQ page if you open it, so it can decide whether to show the button. It stores the state mostrado or pulsado, each destination’s page path and, where applicable, section anchor, and the mark antes if you chose a TV provider before the button appeared, so the visit statistics do not credit the button with your later choices. This mark is stored only if Statistics is on. |
When you click a main-menu destination or open the FAQ page, when the button appears or you press it, or when you choose a TV provider before the button has appeared and Statistics is on. | Until you close the tab. |
3. Categories in the cookie settings
- Necessary: always on. It covers the three items above: your age confirmation, your cookie choice and your language.
- Statistics: an anonymous visit counter that runs on our own server. When you open Cookie settings for the first time, this switch is on. Nothing is counted until you press Save selection or Accept all, and you can turn it off at any time.
When Statistics is on, the counter adds one to a daily total for each of the following. It stores numbers per day, never information about you.
- the page you open (home, Schedule, FAQ or a legal page) and its language;
- the type of device (phone, tablet or computer), taken only from the width of your window;
- where you came from, in five words only: direct, search engine, social, other or internal (the address of the other website is not kept);
- your country, looked up from your IP address in a file on our server. The IP address is used only for that lookup and is not stored. If the country is unknown, it is counted as unknown;
- the weekday and the hour of your visit, by your own clock (not your exact time);
- clicks on a TV operator in Where to watch, with the operator and the country;
- what you choose in “Not on the list?”: your country, the TV provider you pick from the list, whether you open its official contact page and whether you copy the message;
- whether you reach the closing block of a page;
- whether the small Watch X-MO on your TV button was shown, pressed or closed, and, while we test it on alternate days, whether a visit or a click on a TV operator happened on a day with the button or on a day without it;
- how long each main section of the home page or of Schedule was on your screen, in five time ranges (0 to 5 seconds, 5 to 15, 15 to 30, 30 to 60 and 60 or more).
The counter does not store your IP address, a cookie, a device identifier or your browser details. It does not follow you from one visit to the next or from one website to another, it does not build profiles and it writes nothing to your device. Each number is kept separately from the others, so nobody can tell what one person did. In our reports, any number below 5 is shown as “<5”. Daily totals are kept for 25 months and then deleted. Nothing is counted for visitors whose browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, for editors who are logged in, or for automated browsers.
4. Legal basis
Dutch law protects the information on your device (Telecommunications Act, article 11.7a). It is based on a European rule on privacy in electronic communications (article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC).
A website may store or read information on your device only with your consent. There is one main exception: when it is strictly necessary for a service that you asked for.
The three items above are stored only after you act, and only to give you what you asked for. That is why we do not ask for your consent for them.
The session item of the Watch X-MO on your TV button only stops the button from appearing twice in the same visit. It is never sent to our server and it is deleted when you close the tab. We treat it as part of how the page works, so it does not depend on Statistics either.
The visit counter is different: it is not strictly necessary, so it works only with your consent. It counts nothing until you save Statistics as on.
5. How to change or withdraw your choice
Use Cookie settings in the footer of any page. Changing your choice is as easy as making it.
You can also delete the stored items in your browser settings, by deleting the site data of this website. After that, the age notice will appear again.
To stop the visit counter, turn Statistics off in Cookie settings.
6. What X-MO does not use
This website uses no analytics from other companies, no advertising, no social media buttons, no maps and no fonts from other servers. It does not track you across websites and it does not build profiles.
On 14 October 2026 we checked that this website sets no cookies for visitors and makes no requests to other websites, and that the visit counter sends its numbers only to our own server. It only links to other websites, such as those of TV providers. Those websites can set their own cookies once you open them.
